Trade union Solidarity and airline company Mango reached a wage agreement today, following a last marathon negotiation session to avert a strike. According to Ilze Nieuwoudt, Solidarity spokesperson, the details of the agreement are confidential, but very favourable for Mango pilots who have had to be content with significantly smaller packages than their counterparts at Comair and the South African Airways until now.
“As a result of this wage agreement, large-scale disruptions that would have occurred as a result of a strike, have been averted,” says Nieuwoudt. “Wage negotiations like these are often a complicated balancing act, as the interests of the employees, the employer and the community have to be taken into account. It is good news that an agreement could be reached around the negotiating table,” she concludes.
